R4R now a not-for-profit committed to a Suicide-Free ACT
Canberra, ACT – 1st May 2024 – Running for Resilience (R4R), a social running community, is proud to announce its new status as a registered charity.
Founded in 2019 by Matt Breen, 10 years after losing his father to suicide, R4R began as a one-off run with 20 people from the Dock. Today, R4R now hosts four weekly events, drawing more than 500 participants each week, all dedicated to suicide awareness and prevention.
The step to formalise R4R has been made possible thanks to a generous donation by Anytime Fitness founders Jess and Richard Peil. Their contribution will help ensure the long-term viability of R4R and expand its reach to more pubs across the region.
Matt Breen: “The best thing about R4R is our community. From the thousands of people who’ve run or walked, to the 20 or so volunteers that organise what we do. Now Jess and Rich. We truly believe a suicide-free Canberra is possible, and it’s clear that more and more people are starting to believe that too.”
Jess Peil: “Rich and I know exercise is the best way to help mental health. But adding movement into a social setting takes that to a whole new level. What R4R has done for the community is astounding. We are 100% behind everything R4R stands for and so grateful to be involved.”

We are looking for more hospitality venues to establish their own Running for Resilience, and help us make a positive impact on the lives of more and more ACT residents.
